Keyrus and Mediclinic’s virtual training success story

The Mediclinic group is one of the modern private healthcare providers that understand the need to implement and effectively utilise analytics and BI solutions, including Gartner’s BI Magic Quadrant leading business intelligence (BI) tool Tableau. Mediclinic’s leadership recognises how vital it is for their staff to have the capability to gather, analyse and interpret data in order to recommend effective treatments or make important business decisions.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the standard classroom training session was out of the question. “Fortunately, our team of experts at Keyrus have many years of experience in providing successful BI tools training that we were able to draw on. To meet our client’s requirement, we developed a virtual version of this sought-after training course within days. We took this challenge and addressed it with agility typical for Keyrus and were rewarded by client’s positive feedback,” says Craig Andrew, senior consultant and certified Tableau expert at Keyrus.

As Keyrus consultants develop and implement Tableau solutions for clients on a daily basis, they have intimate knowledge of Tableau and are best positioned to deliver highly relevant, pragmatic and engaging training. They call it ‘training of practitioners by practitioners’.

“Utilising the standard training manual used for in-person training, our Keyrus team made use of a combination of various technology platforms to deliver this training in the most interactive and effective manner. This included the utilisation of client’s VC facilities and Zoom to enable the trainer to share a screen with participants and to answer questions in real-time. In conjunction with this, we also used a dual camera that toggled between the trainer’s whiteboard and his face to ensure clarity of key points and human interaction. Although this particular combination of technology was used for this specific training course, Keyrus is ultimately able to utilise a range of different platforms, according to the client’s own requirements,” says Barry Burdis, Head of Delivery at Keyrus.

The team at Mediclinic agrees that Keyrus demonstrated great flexibility and professionalism by delivering a successful virtual Tableau training course on a short notice in these unprecedented circumstances. All participants of this training rated very highly the trainer’s expertise in subject matter and ability to transfer knowledge in engaging and clear manner.

A senior data warehouse specialist at Mediclinic, who attended the virtual training, said: “I liked the manual and the examples shown. I also appreciated the fact that the trainer answered all questions patiently and showed relevant examples. Finally, by giving us a gap before the third day of training resumed, it gave me time to practise and apply what I had learned.”

“Keyrus as a business is acutely aware of the broad lack of technical skills in Africa and aims to play a strategic role in closing this gap. Therefore, we are extremely passionate about helping our clients to build their internal Tableau capability. That way our clients will be able to gain the most benefits from their investment into leading global BI technologies like Tableau. Our virtual training offering is of the same calibre and delivers the same value as the traditional in-person training and we would like to encourage organisations to conduct their training virtually, during the current personal movement restrictions and beyond,” concludes Burdis.
