Decoupling the proprietary gear democratises 5G, which is massively beneficial for a whole spectrum of business and some consumer use cases. “It’s exactly the innovation we need in a post-lockdown world as we try to recover the economy. The lockdown has revealed the significance of wider, cheaper, more efficient online accessibility on a personal scale for students, businesspeople, retailers and many other kinds of public and private organisations,” he says. “Our business world changed overnight, and we have been forced to adapt.” He says open source 5G has many trickle-down effects and nearly 4 500 operational base stations are a ground-breaking use case proving its effectiveness. “It won’t cost our mobile operators billions to build 5G networks using the technologies we’ve developed in our R&D labs,” he says, “so the business case becomes a lot more favourable for network operators who will be able to broaden their spectrum of services, scale them exponentially, and pass the pricing benefits to customers. With this new technology, we have an opportunity to also be efficient, cost-effective and provide services people need, at scale, to help us create business, economic and job opportunities.” NEC XON is the African value-added systems integration business in partnership with NEC Corporation that has specialty expertise in developing, designing, deploying and maintaining carrier-grade mobile and fixed line networks for African telecommunications service providers. Rakuten Mobile is a Japanese start-up mobile network that aims to disrupt the market using NEC’s ground-breaking 5G equipment. NEC has already started delivery of the new 5G base station radios and Rakuten has installed more than 3 500 of them. ### Leave a Comment ## Related Articles [![](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/NeOwEdCOc7gzDf0_mTZhL-gf_DPj9NOvfQTz0VP1_HiQPcPdUjnoN7bWS0_U9MVe0urp5B3vlK8p_ef1gLbVpsehT0kbddLjl59J=w816-h428.jpeg)](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog/office/obscuretechnologies/content/lwrkx73kkdl7mg1o) ### [South Africa among countries most sceptical about 5G](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog/office/obscuretechnologies/content/lwrkx73kkdl7mg1o) [ITWeb](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog/author/itweb) [Read More](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog/office/obscuretechnologies/content/lwrkx73kkdl7mg1o) [![](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/CI5sxO8yiCmQrHsm2Ks5XXv0RaKmoiQGHhyMzdK7hLaCiIVMGgLElsCz3FSOZFOh00jd0uk0QEZ_wtiKmTQxeBM=w816-h428.jpeg)](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog/office/obscuretechnologies/content/myzrxv9aadwvoga8) ### [The Love Trust and NU Africa – we need to continue helping society’s most vulnerable during lockdown](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog/office/obscuretechnologies/content/myzrxv9aadwvoga8) [ITWeb](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog/author/itweb) [Read More](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog/office/obscuretechnologies/content/myzrxv9aadwvoga8) #### About - [Privacy Policy](https://obscuretech-6344971.hs-sites.com/privacy-policy) - [Company Documents](https://obscuretech-6344971.hs-sites.com/company-documents) - [Blog](https://hubspot.obscuretech.net/blog) - [Contact Us](https://obscuretech-6344971.hs-sites.com/contact-us) #### Find Out More - [Training](https://obscuretech-6344971.hs-sites.com/training) - [Vendor](https://obscuretech-6344971.hs-sites.com/technology-partners) [info@obscuretech.net](mailto:info@obscuretech.net) [+27 12 941 2032](tel:0129412032) Block B, Unit 2, Top Floor, Southdowns Office Park, 21 Karee Street, Irene, Centurion, 0157 [Follow us on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/obscuretech/) [Follow us on LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/company/12905777/) [Follow us on Twitter](https://twitter.com/obscuretechsa) [Follow us on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/obscuretech) © 2021 Obscure Technology (Pty) Ltd.
